Researcher Bobby, D2 students Matsuo and Kido, D1 student Kotani, and M2 student Ito participated in the 70th Conference on Hydraulic Engineering held in Koriyama City, Fukushima Prefecture from December 10 to 12, 2025.
The day before, we attended the Young Researchers’ Workshop on Hydraulic Engineering alongside Assistant Professor Inoue.
Young researchers and students around 30 years old from various universities participating in the conference on Hydraulic Engineering presented their research, followed by a Q&A session in a relaxed atmosphere. Many presented the same content they would at the conference as practice for the conference presentation.
At the opening ceremony on the first day, awards were presented to Matsuo, recipient of the Hydraulic Engineering Paper Encouragement Award, and Bobby, a researcher who received the Best International Paper Award. Congratulations!
On the second day, since a student acquaintance from Tohoku University offered to guide us through the erosion control facilities on the Arakawa River, a tributary of the Abukuma River, Kido and Kotani, who conduct research focused on mountains, went to observe the Arakawa River.
The Arakawa River has long suffered from significant sediment runoff, leading to the construction of numerous erosion control dams. They observed not only the permeable-type erosion control dams commonly seen in Hiroshima, but also large-scale impermeable dams, culvert dams, mist embankments, and sedimentation basins.
Presentations at the conference were given by Assistant Professor Inoue, Researcher Bobby, D1 student Kotani, and M2 student Ito. As expected, most of them have become quite accustomed to conferences and I believe they delivered solid presentations.
Indeed, conferences like this provide an excellent opportunity to gather information from various fields and broaden the scope of one’s own research.
Several people at this conference developed flu and couldn’t fully participate. To avoid such a wasted opportunity, we intend to pay even closer attention to managing my health going forward and dedicate myself to my research activities.
