D2 student Pawat and D1 student Kido attended the AOGS (Asia Oceania Geosciences Society) conference held at Alpensia Ski Resort, Pyeongchang, South Korea, from June 22nd to 29th, 2024.
Topics discussed included the effects of climate change on hydrology, the application of data science in hydraulics, and hydraulic modeling.
We began our journey from Hiroshima Airport to Incheon International Airport with Jeju Airway. The flight was short, taking around 90 minutes. Upon arriving at Incheon International Airport, we took the Airport Railroad to Seoul Station, then traveled to Jinbu Station on the KTX (Korea Speed Train).
At Jinbu Station, we were greeted by Soohorang (a tiger) and Bandabi (a bear), the mascots of the 2018 Winter Olympics and Winter Paralympics. We then took a taxi to Alpensia Ski Resort, a journey longer than our flight from Hiroshima to Incheon.
Alpensia Ski Resort resembles a mountain town, offering all necessary infrastructure, including hotels, a convention hall, an alpine coaster, restaurants, and shops.
We stayed in an Ondol room (a traditional Korean room) at Alpensia, providing a great opportunity to experience Korean culture. We also tried various Korean foods during the conference.
We attended many sessions throughout the conference, learning and discussing various topics related to Hydrological Science with numerous researchers.
Additionally, Pawat and Kido presented a poster on June 25th in the afternoon. This was a valuable opportunity to discuss our research with doctoral students and researchers from many countries.
During breaks in the conference, we tried the Alpine Coaster at the resort, a thrilling experience that lasted just 15 minutes.
Additionally, the conference offered a free tour to Anmok Beach, known for its numerous coffee shops, providing a relaxing and enjoyable outing.
We have the opportunity to expand the research network with graduated student, researcher and professor from several country.
The photo was taken at a dinner with people from Kyoto University and Tohoku University.
The conference covered various subjects in Geosciences, including Hydrological Sciences, providing an excellent opportunity to learn and discuss with researchers from many countries.
We were also able to experience Korean culture and create some fun memories. We would like to make the most of this experience and continue to work hard in our research!
