We attended the IS-GURP held at the Higashi-Senda Campus of Hiroshima University.
From September 27th to 30th, Assistant Professor Takashi Inoue, Matsuo (D3), Kotani (D2), Kanei (M1), and Okamura (B4) attended the IS-GURP (International Symposium on Geotechnical and Urban Resilience Planning) held at the Higashi-Senda Campus of Hiroshima University.
The main conference was held on September 28th and 29th. On the 28th, there were keynote lectures by Professor Sung-Uk Choi and Professor Kenichi Soga, as well as oral and poster presentations. From the Hydraulic Engineering Laboratory, Assistant Professor Takashi Inoue, Matsuo, Kotani, and Kanei gave poster presentations. We were able to deepen our knowledge in the fields of geotechnical and hydraulic engineering while also fostering exchanges among the participants. Because it was an international conference held in Japan, my impression was that many participants conversed in Japanese.
The first day of the conference was packed with programs and was a very fulfilling day.
On the second day, the 29th, a keynote lecture by Professor Akimasa Fujiwara and oral presentations were held. During the oral sessions, there were many presentations in the field of geotechnical engineering, which is different from what we usually study, making it a refreshing experience. Although there were many specialized topics that were difficult to fully understand, I listened with great interest. I would like to apply the knowledge and perspectives gained this time to my future research.
Also, the lunches provided on the 28th and 29th were delicious bento boxes filled with Hiroshima specialties.
Excuse me for a brief interruption, this is Matsuo!
In conjunction with IS-GURP, a dinner party was held with 7 people: Professor Choi and his two students from Yonsei University in South Korea, Professor Kawahara, Professor Uchida, Assistant Professor Takashi Inoue, and myself!
Professor Choi previously participated in the Japan-Korea Symposium held at MIRAI CREA, and he also gave a lecture as a Keynote Speaker at this conference.
The dinner menu was Hiroshima’s famous okonomiyaki!!!
We had a wonderful time talking with Professor Choi’s students about various topics, including Korean and Japanese culture!
(One of Professor Choi’s students got cut out of the frame. Sorry about that! 💦)
That’s all from Matsuo~
