From March 28th to March 30th, the 6th Korea-Japan Mini-Symposium on Modeling and Measurement in Hydraulics was successfully held at Mirai Crea, Higashihiroshima Campus, Hiroshima University. The symposium facilitated active participation, constructive discussions, and knowledge exchange among esteemed researchers and scholars.

The symposium welcomed five distinguished guests from Yonsei University, Hanyang University, Seoul National University, and Gangneung-Wonju National University in Korea, along with twelve researchers from Hiroshima University, Shizuoka University, Kobe University, Nagoya University, Gifu University, University of Toyama, and the Central Research Institute of Electric Power Industry in Japan. Additionally, Professor Nakayama attended from Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman, Malaysia. Throughout the event, participants presented their latest research findings and engaged in profound discussions covering various topics such as turbulent flows, fluid dynamics, numerical models, river flows, and morphology.

As hosts, the Hiroshima University Hydraulics Laboratory organized an excursion for all attendees on the first day to explore prominent local landmarks of Miyajima Island. Participants also enjoyed a memorable sea fishing experience aboard a boat. The day concluded with a warm welcome party at Mirai Crea, where all attendees raised their glasses in celebration of the symposium’s commencement.

During the lively welcome party held at Mirai Crea, Professor Nakayama took the stage to deliver the opening speech, extending a heartfelt welcome to all guests attending the symposium and expressing gratitude towards Hiroshima University Hydraulics Laboratory for hosting the symposium and acknowledging the meticulous preparations.

Professor Kawahara Delivered an Opening Address on the Second Day of the Symposium

As the dawn of the second day of the symposium broke, Professor Kawahara took the podium to deliver the opening address, reiterating the significance of the event as a platform for scholarly exchange and collaboration and expressing enthusiasm for the upcoming presentations and discussions, highlighting the diverse range of research topics that would be explored throughout the day.

On the second day, every researcher delivered insightful presentations, showcasing their diverse expertise and innovative research endeavors. Besides, students from Hiroshima University Hydraulics Laboratory presented their research posters and engaged in fruitful discussions with fellow researchers, receiving valuable feedback and insights.

Professor Sung-Uk Choi from Yonsei University Delivered Closing Remarks on the Third Day of the Symposium

On the final day of the symposium, Professor Sung-Uk Choi from Yonsei University took the stage to deliver the closing remarks. Expressing gratitude towards the organizers for their warm hospitality, Professor Choi conveyed his appreciation for the fruitful exchange of ideas and insights throughout the event. He commended the collective efforts of all participants in contributing to the success of the symposium and expressed anticipation for future collaborations and gatherings. In a gesture of appreciation and respect, the Korean delegation collectively presented commemorative medals to Professor Kawahara, Professor Fujita, and Professor Nakayama. These medals serve as tokens of recognition for their outstanding contributions to research in the field of hydraulics, symbolizing the enduring bonds forged through scholarly collaboration and shared dedication to advancing scientific knowledge.

The symposium provided a conducive platform for fostering academic collaboration, knowledge dissemination, and cultural exchange among participants from Korea, Japan, and Malaysia. Through such collaborative efforts, the symposium aims to further advance the field of hydraulics research and strengthen international academic ties.
