Doctoral Students of the Hydraulic Engineering Laboratory Participate in the Interim Presentation of the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department (June 4, 2026)

The Interim Presentation of Doctoral students from the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department Hiroshima University was held last June 4, 2026 at the MIRAI CREA multipurpose hall.

This event aimed to provide a formal interim progress-sharing opportunity for doctoral students and an avenue to seek valuable inputs from faculty members and other attendees toward the improvement of their research. It was also the first time that the interim presentations were done in poster presentation format.

Doctoral students of the department from the 2024 and 2025 fall-intake (D1 and D2 students) gave poster presentations on the current progress of their research. Participants from the Hydraulic Engineering Laboratory include, from left to right, Mr. Muhammad Fajrin Wahab (D2), Mr. Asghar Muhammad (D2), Mr. Franz Santos (D1), and Mr. Ali Abid (D1).

The presentations were split into two poster sessions where D2 students presented in the first session, while the second session were alloted for the presentation of the D1 students. With the fruitful exchange of ideas and questions coming from faculty members and other students of the department who attended the event, we were able to get different perspectives on how we could still improve our research moving forward.  The poster presentation format of this Interim Presentation also proved to be helpful as we had the opportunity to meet and discuss with graduate students from different research laboratories fostering academic interaction between different doctoral disciplines.

After the presentations, there was a post-session gathering where participants shared some snacks and drinks, and it was a very good opportunity to network and socialize.

Before the conclusion of the event, Professor Uchida of the Hydraulic Engineering Laboratory, delivered the closing message and explained the reason and value of doing the interim report of doctoral students this year in poster presentation format. And the event ended with a group photo.

It was really a very nice experience for us as this event was not only intended to refine and imrpove our research in the future, but it also gave us an opportunity to build a network by getting to know other students in the department. We will continue doing our best in research and we look forward to more opportunities to socialize and exchange ideas with our fellow students!
